Our operations span multiple continents, ensuring localized compliance while maintaining a single global standard. We deliver across: – North America – the United States and Canada – Europe – the United Kingdom and the wider European Union – Australasia – Australia and India Activities: – Coordinate compliance across regional fulfillment centers in the UK, US, Canada, Germany, and Australia. – Maintain a unified compliance framework that aligns with all active jurisdictions. – Regularly update compliance practices to reflect new legislation and global standards. – Use Westminster headquarters as the central hub for governance, oversight, and certifications.

0.1. Sustainability & Ethical Standards

Sustainability is core to our operations. Artisan Furniture is a certified B Corp, demonstrating verified commitment to environmental and social impact across governance, workers, community, and customers. Our primary manufacturing base in Jaipur, India is SMETA-audited (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit), ensuring ethical labor, health and safety, environmental stewardship, and business integrity. Alongside these, we align with recognized international certifications to maintain trust and accountability. Activities: – Operate a community-based factory in Jaipur producing handcrafted solid mango wood furniture under ethical, fair trade, and sustainable conditions. – Ensure SMETA compliance with ongoing third-party audits covering labor rights, health and safety, environment, and business ethics. – Uphold B Corp standards through continuous monitoring and re-certification, embedding sustainability at every decision point. – Adopt frameworks such as GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), Vriksh, and other timber legality standards. – Apply uniform sustainability and compliance principles across all global operations.

1. Lead & Phthalates

UK & Europe: Lead and phthalates regulated under REACH. Lead restricted in surface coatings; DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP limited to 0.1% by weight in plastics. North America: CPSIA caps lead at 90 ppm in paints and coatings. Phthalates restricted; Proposition 65 mandates disclosure above safe levels. Canada aligns with similar thresholds. Australasia: Australia limits lead in paints to 90 ppm. India enforces restrictions mainly via BIS and export requirements. Activities: – Obtain declarations of conformity from suppliers. – Test each coating batch using ICP-MS with tighter internal thresholds. – Conduct phthalate screening using FTIR and GC-MS. – Trigger type testing when finishes or adhesives change. – Maintain quarterly/semi-annual conformity testing.

2. BS 5852 – UK Fire Safety for Upholstery

UK & Europe: BS 5852 measures ignitability of upholstered composites under cigarette and match flame sources. Mandatory via Furniture and Furnishings Regulations. North America: Not legally required, but accepted by contract buyers as higher safety evidence. Australasia: No national upholstered law, but BS 5852 compliance is widely requested. Activities: – Source fabrics pre-certified to Source 0/1 resistance. – Test fabric-foam composites to BS 5852 Part 1 (domestic) and Crib 5 (contract). – Conduct annual or change-driven re-tests. – Apply permanent and swing labels per UK rules.

3. TB117-2013 – California Flammability

North America: TB117-2013 requires smoulder resistance of upholstery materials. SB 1019 mandates disclosure labels on flame retardant chemicals. UK/Europe & Australasia: Not mandatory but widely accepted. Activities: – Use foams/fibers tested to TB117-2013. – Eliminate halogenated flame retardants. – Maintain certificates and annual re-tests. – Apply TB117-2013/SB 1019 combined labels.

4. Anti-Tip & Furniture Stability

North America: STURDY Act and 16 CFR Part 1261 mandate stability tests, anti-tip kits, and warning labels. Based on ASTM F2057-23. UK & Europe: EN 14749 standard covers storage furniture safety; treated as best practice under General Product Safety Directive. Australasia: Australia enforces safety under General Safety Provision; India applies export market standards. Activities: – Engineer for stability with low center of gravity and reinforced panels. – Conduct ASTM F2057-23 testing for U.S. (hard surface & carpet). – Supply ASTM F3096-compliant anti-tip kits with labels and IFUs. – Apply EN 14749 stability tests for UK, EU, and Australasia. – Re-test top sellers every six months.

5. Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (MCCPs)

UK & Europe: MCCPs listed as Substances of Very High Concern under REACH, effectively phased out. North America: EPA has proposed bans; Canada moving toward prohibition. Australasia: Australia continues to review MCCPs. India avoids use for export markets. Activities: – Zero-MCCP policy across coatings, foams, and adhesives. – Require MCCP-free supplier declarations. – Verify through laboratory testing. – Update compliance records regularly.

6. EUDR – EU Deforestation Regulation

Overview: Requires timber products to be deforestation-free and legally harvested. Operators must submit geolocation data and due diligence statements. Deadlines: December 2025 for large/medium firms, June 2026 for SMEs. Activities: – Collect GPS and harvest data for each timber plot. – Maintain chain-of-custody documentation across the supply chain. – Conduct risk assessments with third-party verification. – File Due Diligence Statements for EU shipments. – Retain records for minimum of five years.
