Safety Data Sheet (SDS) - Methyl Bromide
This SDS applies to methyl bromide used only during container fumigation, performed by licensed fumigation contractors after goods are fully packed and sealed. Artisan Furniture does not purchase, store, handle, or apply methyl bromide.
Purpose and Scope
This SDS covers container-entry safety, ventilation protocols, worker precautions, and confirms no product exposure.
Chemical Classification
Methyl bromide is a toxic inhalation hazard permitted under Quarantine and Pre-Shipment rules only.
Form of Use
The fumigant is introduced only as gas into sealed containers by accredited fumigators. No Artisan Furniture staff handle the gas.
Container Fumigation Process
Packed goods → Sealed container → Gas injected → Exposure → Ventilation by fumigator → Container released.
Hazards (Container Only)
Risk exists only if a sealed container is opened before ventilation. It does not apply during manufacturing or packing.
Worker Safety
Do not open or enter containers before fumigator clearance. Do not remove fumigation warnings.
Product Exposure
Finished furniture is sealed in cartons. Methyl bromide does not bind to wood, lacquer, wax, textiles, or leather.
Fumigation Documentation
Artisan Furniture receives one NSPM-12 fumigation certificate confirming fumigation, exposure, and aeration.
Technical Fumigation Protocol
Container fumigation occurs only after goods are fully packed and sealed. Gas affects only the container atmosphere.
Protocol Steps
1) Pack goods. 2) Seal container. 3) Inject gas. 4) Exposure. 5) Ventilation. 6) Release.
Gas Behaviour
Methyl bromide diffuses through container airspace and dissipates rapidly once doors are opened.
Contact With Goods
No contact occurs. Products remain chemically unaffected and residue-free.
Compliance Alignment
Process aligns with international quarantine and pre-shipment requirements.
Importer Assurance
Products are safe, compliant, chemical-free, and released only after accredited fumigation.
